The umbrella topic explored in this portfolio of four published papers is highereducation in a context of on-going violent conflict. I chose to carry out research in this area as I myself teach at an academic institution in Israel and had identified among a number of my students difficulties which emerged from the conflict. Unlike very large-scale violent attacks, which were recognised for their negative impact and responded to accordingly, difficulties created by prolonged conflict seemed to go unidentified and consequently unaddressed. What began as an observation of difficulties among individual students emerged during the course of this research as an understanding of how conflict can impact the maintenance of academic routine among students, teachers and academic institutions.
