Abstract

The guanidine-pyridine ligands DMEGqu, TMGqu, and DMEGpy were reacted with zinc benzoate, zinc acetylacetonate, zinc bromide, zinc tetrafluoroborate, and zinc d,l-lactate in order obtain the corresponding complexes. The compounds were structurally characterized by X-ray crystallography and further characterized by NMR, IR, and MS measurements. All complexes were tested as initiators in the melt polymerization of d,l-lactide and the influence of the anion effect was studied. The bis(chelate) tetrafluoroborate complex 7 exhibited the highest activity.
