Abstract

This workshop is intended for structural and architectural designers who wish to develop their conceptual design abilities. It will cover those first few exciting hours of imagination, exploration of ideas and initial feasibility which occur in any major design project. A maximum of 35 delegates will be permitted to attend this workshop, broken into eight teams in total, each comprising four or five members. There will be four experienced designers and tutors assisting throughout the workshop (they will preferably include an architect, a building structural engineer, a bridge engineer and an academic). They will ask questions of each group, thereby nudging the teams towards ambitious, creative and feasible design outcomes. The make‐up of each team is unimportant. Designers from the worlds of architecture, bridges, buildings or any other form of infrastructure are very welcome to join in any team.
