Abstract
Inset dielectric guide antennas are shown to have a considerable potential as broadband millimetre wave antennas. Their simple construction makes them reliable and cost effective. This contribution presents theoretical and experimental investigation of the operation of a straight inset dielectric guide antenna at frequencies between 27 and 39 GHz. It is suggested that a simple H-guide model, based on analytical expressions, has good accuracy at millimetre wave frequencies while more accurate results can be obtained by application of the three-dimensional finite-difference time-domain model.
