Abstract

Researchers have long looked for what factors affect the adoption of new technologies. This has become even more important recently with digitalisation affecting various industries and their operations. In manufacturing in particular, digitalisation has been recommended as a mechanism for improving productivity and fostering innovation. In time, new frameworks that build on previous research on technology adoption to emphasise the importance of the human factor in successful technology adoption have emerged.

This study aims to delve further into the importance of people in the adoption of digital technologies and their interplay with other factors about the technology itself and the environment and people. Secondly, we investigate if the adoption of digital technologies in manufacturing affects the performance and reputation of an organisation. Thirdly, we examine how these effects change according to company size and technology adoption levels.
