Abstract
Variable gain operation of a gain-clamped sampled grating laser amplifier was presented. The device considered was a four electrode laser with two separate electrically tunable sampled gratings. Gain-clamped operation was demonstrated by optimizing the electrode currents for short wavelength clamp oscillation relative to a long wavelength signal. Monotonic power control of over 14 dB was demonstrated by tuning one grating in an unoptimized sampled grating laser.
