Abstract

The United Nations Statistical Commission plays an important role in tracking progress towards achieving the 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Commission is the highest governing body of the global statistical system, with a primary mandate to coordinate international efforts in developing statistical standards and methodologies. It drives global efforts to ensure best practices and comparability among member states in monitoring development indicators. It sets a global standard for SDG global monitoring and provides support to strengthen member states’ capacities for implementing and monitoring SDGs at the national level, addressing one of the major pressing challenges in assessing the progress in achieving SDGs.
