Abstract

All optical 2R regeneration and wavelength conversion was demonstrated using a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA)/distributed feedback (DFB) laser device. The regenerated signal exhibits a Q factor improvement of 2.5 between input and output of the 2R regenerator. It was found that the extinction ratio improved from 5.2dB to 7.7dB with simultaneous amplification.
