Abstract
A model system was used where the triplet excited state has been made emissive thus rendering it easily accessible by optical spectroscopy to study the triplet excited state in conjugated polymers directly. This is achieved by including platinum in the main polymer chain. The heavy metal atom introduces spin-orbit coupling, and radiative transitions between singlet and triplet states become possible.
