Abstract
On November 19, 1914, the residents of Travesía del Desengaño number 7 received the news of their imminent eviction. The city council had given the green light to the second section of the future Gran Vía, so they had to leave their homes immediately.
Travesía del Desengaño, 7 is a choral story that, with humor, tenderness and resentment, narrates the vicissitudes of these neighbors during the week in which they opposed the eviction.
Fifteen years later, on the rubble of their houses, the tallest skyscraper in Spain and the second tallest in Europe at the time was inaugurated: the Telefónica Building.
The novel, while portraying a Madrid that was buried under overwhelming promises of modernity and progress, resonates in the present of our neighborhoods and cities.
