Abstract

An 18 GHz passive modelocking and Fourier-transform-limited pulse generation in 1.3 νm quantum dot lasers was demonstrated. To characterize the modelocked pulses in the time domain, a fast oscilloscope and an autocorrelator were used. The timing jitter and time-bandwidth product were also evaluated for characterizing the modelocked pulses. An upper limit of 600 fs was estimated for the root-mean-square timing jitter (2.5-50 MHz).
