Abstract

The diffusion-limited model for evaporation is used to calculate the evolution, and hence the lifetime, of droplets with any initial contact angle on a substrate with a wide range of thermal conductivities in both the constant contact radius and constant contact angle modes of evaporation. In particular, it is shown that when the initial contact angle is large, the thermally decoupled model for evaporation, which neglects evaporative cooling effects, underpredicts the lifetime of the droplet.
