Abstract

A method is developed for the prediction of noise fromrotors in an axisymmetric duct at rest. The technique combines a previously developed model for noise from disc sources with a boundary integralequation method for scattering from the ductsurface. Recent developments in the theory ofGaussian quadrature and generalized ellipticintegrals are used to simplify the implementation ofthe formulation. The sound field of a simplifiedmodel ducted rotor is then calculated and itsstructure examined in the framework of knownfeatures of the field around rotating sources. It isfound that, as for an open rotor, the sonic radiusplays an important role in the structure of the field.
