The future of research on LGBTQ+ working lives

In this final chapter, we present a ‘conversation’ between our contributors about the future of research on LGBTQ+ working lives and our roles as engaged scholars in this space. We find that LGBTQ+ researchers must be reflexive, take a pluralistic perspective, and consider the multi-disciplinary nature of the field. Given that the future of LGBTQ+ research is complex and uncertain, researchers must make important decisions and weigh up competing demands as they move forward. Key areas that researchers must think about carefully are: a) how they can harness their sense of responsibility and ability/desire to take action to improve LGBTQ+ working lives; b) how they can best navigate challenges in academia to ensure they make the most impact whilst achieving their career/professional goals; and c) how they will source, collect, and analyse LGBTQ+ data in representative, ethical, rigorous, innovative, and community-driven ways.
