Abstract

This paper for the first time demonstrates the feasibility of building a monolithically-integrated 64 × 64 SOA-based optical switch based on an modular architecture experimentally tested in an 8 × 8 SOA switch. Using parameters derived from experiment, simulation results show that such a 64 × 64 SOA switch has a power penalty as low as 1 dB.
