Abstract

A paradigm shift in clinical diagnostics has triggered the recent development of a new generation of integrated microfluidic diagnostic systems, yet these still unable to compete directly with conventional nitrocellulose lateral flow (dipstick) tests with respect to simplicity, manufacturing costs, affordability and reagent storage/release. For the first time we report a new microfluidic concept for multi-analyte testing in a dipstick format termed "Lab-on-a-Stick" that combines the simplicity of dipstick tests with the high performance of microfluidic devices.
