Abstract
We report on the effect of annealing on the thermopower of two representative alloys of the amorphous CuxZr1-x system (x = 0.59 and 0.33). Measurements in the temperature range 1-300 K were made on the "as-quenched" samples, and again following annealing and crystallization. Resistivity and X-ray diffraction measurements were used to confirm that crystallization had taken place. The thermopower of both samples decreased only slightly on annealing, but changed quite dramatically during crystallization. We have attributed this change to the emergence of a large phonon drag thermopower in the crystalline samples.
