Abstract
The effect of carrying out Wurtz type polymerizations of dichlorodiorganosilanes to poly(organosilanes) under the influence of ultrasound has been investigated. The sonochemical reaction produced faster polymerizations and higher yields in a range of systems. Previous reports of modification of molecular weight distributions have been confirmed and the results used to elucidate the mechanism of the sonochemical enhancement. The control of molecular weight distributions by variation of the ultrasound properties is also illustrated.
