Abstract

Title full: Synthesis of phosphido-bridged ruthenium-manganese complexes; X-ray crystal structures of [RuMn(μ-H)(μ-PPh2)-(η5-C5H 5)(CO)5], [Ru2(μ-H)(μ-PPh2)(η5-C 5H5)2(CO)2] and [RuMn2(μ-H)(μ-PPh2)25-C5H5)(CO)9]. The complex [RuMn(η5-C5H5)(CO)7] 1 has been synthesised in 70% yield from the reaction of [Ru(η5-C5H5)(CO)2I] with Na[Mn(CO)5]. Photolytic reaction of 1 with PPh2H gives the new complexes [RuMn(μ-H)(μ-PPh2)(η5-C5H 5)(CO)5] 2, [Mn2(μ-H)(μ-PPh2)(CO)7(PPh2H)] 3, trans- and cis-[Ru2(μ-H)(μ-PPh2)(η5-C 5H5)2(CO)2] 4a and b, [RuMn2(μ-H)(μ-PPh2)25-C5H5)(CO)9] 5 and [RuMn2(μ-H)(μ-PPh2)25-C5H5)(CO)8(PPh2H)] 6 together with the known complexes [Mn2(μ-H)(μ-PPh2)(CO)8] and [Ru25-C5H5) 2(CO)4]. The crystal structures of 2, 4a and 5 have been determined. Structures are proposed for the other new complexes and the mechanism of the photolytic reaction of 1 with PPh2H is discussed.
