Abstract
The crystals of pyridine-2-amidoxime, C6H7N3O, are monoclinic, space group C2/c with a = 21.672(1), b = 4.615(1), c = 13.398(1) Å, β = 106.58(1)° and Z = 8. The reaction of the ligand with copper(II) chloride dihydrate yields a dark green precipitate of formula [Cu(C6H7N3O)2(H2O)]Cl2 which crystallized in the monoclinic space group C2/c with a = 16.856(1), b = 7.076(1), c = 14.843(1) Å, β = 106.40(1)° and Z = 4. The X-ray structure of the complex shows the five-coordinate nature of the metal atom which is bound through the heterocyclic and oxime nitrogen atoms of two trans-oriented bidentate ligands plus a water molecule to give a square-based pyramidal chelate.
