Abstract

The compounds Sr[AlO]S and Ca[AlO]S have been prepared by reduction of the corresponding sulfate materials, M [AlO]·(SO) via an intra-cage reaction. The materials crystallise with the simple body-centred cubic sodalite structure. Profile refinement of powder X-ray data has been undertaken showing a tetrahedral coordination around sulfur and a distorted sevemold coordination for the alkaline-earth metals.
