Abstract

An acetylene-linked dimeric complex has been prepared from the reaction of [Co2(CO)8] with PhC2MPPh3 (M Ag or Au) or [Hg(C2Ph)2] in Ch2Cl2. An X-ray structure determination revealed that the product was not the expected aceteylene derivative [Co2(CO)6(PhC2MPPh3)] or [{Co2(CO)6PhC2}2Hg)], but contained two [Co2(CO)6PhC2] units linked by a CC bond to give the dimer [{Co2(CO)6PhC2}2].
