Abstract

Electrical impedance tomography (EIT), electrical capacitance tomography (ECT) and magnetic induction tomography (MIT) are the main members of low frequency electromagnetic tomogra- phy. In this presentation we will discuss various image and shape reconstruction methods applied to EIT, ECT, MIT using experimental data. Implementation of practically useful imaging algo- rithms is the main focus of this presentation and special attention will be given to the nonlinear image reconstruction methods. In many cases very good imaging algorithms are tested only on an oversimplified model of tomography instrument. In this talk we will demonstrate that by ignoring some aspects of the measurement process in imaging reconstruction software, the technique cannot be used practi- cally. Also oversimplification of the imaging algorithms against experimental data although it may produce some tomography image, it cannot be stated as a general inverse solution. The challenges of optimal implementation of nonlinear imaging methods will be discussed. In conclu- sion we will propose various image reconstruction methods and discuss how one of these methods could be used for a given application. 4
