Abstract

We report a six-mode photonic lantern multiplexer made from six different step-index single-mode fibres. Reduced cladding fibres assist adiabaticity, while retaining cores resembling those of standard SMF. Light in each fibre excites a different output mode. The loss was ∼0.4dB.
