Abstract

This paper presents a model for predicting permeate stream concentrations of a multi-stage membrane system considering membrane pressure gradient, osmotic pressure gradient, recovery, solvent mass transfer coefficient, solute mass transfer coefficient and concentration polarisation. Predicted results using the model and a statistical model for predicting mass transfer coefficients for a Filmtec NF70 membrane are compared to field results from a membrane study using a Filmtec NF70 and Toray SU-610 membranes.
