Abstract
The short-pulse transmission characteristics of an array-waveguide grating were investigated. Observations revealed that the temporal pattern of the output was strongly dependent on the input pulse duration. The factors responsible for pulse distortion were dispersion of waveguides and the delayed response of arrayed waveguides.
