Abstract

Direct modulation of an uncooled 1.3μm InGaAsP ridge-waveguide laser at 10Gbit/s is demonstrated at temperatures up to 70°C, with extinction ratios of > 8dB. Transmission over 2.2km of singlemode fibre at 70°C is achieved with a total power penalty of 2.5dB.
