    Abstract

The OAIS Reference Model [1] provides an internationally recognised framework for Long-Term preservation of Information. A fundamental role is played by the Information Model which defines Representation Information. We argue that Representation Information is a key concept both for the preservation of digital information as well as interoperability in the era of globally distributed data.
