Abstract
Developments in areas of understanding and relating to people who have severe and persistent mental health problems, psychological treatments, community care plans and homelessness are reviewed in this paper. In some ways these are quite disparate topics. They are mentioned here to reflect the growing need to integrate aspects of care such as services, agencies, professional and non-professional carers, and treatment approaches. The literature published over the past year suggests that progress is being made in this direction.
