Abstract

A constraint based approach is discussed which allows the relations describing the assembly and performance of a mechanism or machine to be specified and the implications investigated. This allows motions to be simulated. Optimisation techniques are used to resolve constraints and these can be used to determine optimal configurations to achieve given performance measures. This means that mechanisms which are reconfigurable can be designed and investigated, and suitable choices for the reconfigurable parameters determined.
