Abstract

This lecture is about transdermal drug delivery. It will be divided into two parts. The first part will deal with transdermal drug delivery for systemic therapeutic effect, and will describe a number of transdermal systems which have been developed, and which are, or soon will be used in the United States for the treatment of the systemic disease. The second part will deal with the use of transdermal drug delivery to achieve a local pharmacological effect, and some of the ramifications of using the skin to achieve significant local concentrations of drug to relieve local discomfort.
