Abstract
The method of component referencing for circuit diagrams recommended in BS:3939 gives no indication of component location unless the references are silk-screened onto the circuit board. These are unavailable when prototype circuits are built on general purpose matrix boards, using DIL sockets and wire-wrap or pen-wrap inter-connections. A method of component referencing for use in circuit development assumes that the user can recognize components by their symbol alone without qualifying letters.
