Abstract

This paper presents a solution for the automation of powder processing within the pharmaceutical industry. A single-vessel processor (SVP) is introduced which eliminates the need for the conventional eight distinct unit operations by combining these within the SVP. A simulation model is used to compare the traditional multi- vessel approach to that of single-vessel operation with the results being discussed in terms of the size reduction of plants, improvements in batch processing and flexibility
