Potential applications of membrane processes in Dutch drinking water practice

Abstract

Membrane technology has several significant applications in the production of drinking water. Some of these application include desalination, softening, removal of natural organic matter (NOM) removal of pesticides and other micropollutants and nitrate removal. Currently, some Dutch drinking water supply companies are planning several large scale membrane filtration installations. These plants are being realized through investigations varying from desk studies to research on pilot scale.
