Abstract
The performance of the three-float wave energy converter M4 in regular and random waves has been investigated experimentally and numerically with a fully coupled linear frequency domain diffraction model. Good agreement has been obtained. Further optimisation of performance has been carried out using the present linear dynamic model. Significant improvements in capture width ratio have been obtained by tuning the damping coefficient and the hinge height of the power take-off.
