Abstract
In their habitats, microorganisms are often in competition for limited nutrients, and many Gram-positive bacteria resort to production of peptide antibiotics to succeed. Consequently, resistance against these compounds is essential. The first step in ensuring survival is the detection of the toxic peptides. Interestingly, many of the sensory proteins lack obvious binding domains. We investigate how such proteins are able to detect their substrates and regulate resistance.
