Abstract
Metals play an important role in the catalysis of olefin polymerization. This chapter gives an overview of the different mechanistic pathways to polymerization: coordination, metathesis, cationic, anionic, and radical polymerization. The different ways to control the polymer structure, including molecular weight and molecular weight distribution, branching and copolymerization, are outlined. An overview of different olefin monomers used, typical co-catalysts employed, and the use of specific metals in polymerization is given.
