Abstract

A theoretical analysis of the radiation characteristics of the flared inset dielectric guide (IDG) antennas is presented. The method of analysis involves two steps. In the first step the aperture distribution in the flared slot is determined. In the second step the equivalent magnetic current in the slot is treated as radiating in the presence of a conducting plane. Results are given for both constant width and linearly tapered antennas. The method is finally validated by comparison with measured results.
