Abstract

This paper describes an iterative nonlinear image reconstruction method for ECT, where the Jacobian (sensitivity) matrix and the corresponding inverse transform are recalculated at each iterative step using finite element methods. This method is particularly suitable for use with high-contrast permittivity distributions. Results are given for both experimental and simulated data. Special attention has been paid to verifying the forward model with experimental data, as conventional methods for calculating sensitivity matrices can give inaccurate results for pixels close to the electrodes.
