New Method for Evaluating the Fluid Borne Noise Characteristics of Positive Displacement Pumps

Research output: Contribution to conferencePaper

Abstract

The paper describes a new test method for the experimental determination of the flow ripple and impedance of hydraulic pumps. The test method involves the use of an auxiliary generator of pressure ripple in order to excite the pump under test, so that the impedance of that pump may be evaluated by consideration of the reflection obtained. The method has proved practical and accurate and overcomes most of the shortcomings of previous methods. The test can also be applied to motors and passive components such as valves. A method is also described for the accurate experimental determination of the sonic velocity in the fluid
