Abstract
The changing horizon in international higher education presents a complex terrain of remote work within the higher education sector, and this challenge requires a deeper understanding of the key workforce issues and innovative approaches for leaders and practitioners. As the landscape of academia undergoes a digital transformation, propelled by global shifts and the impacts of events like the COVID-19 pandemic, institutions have adapted to remote modes of operation. This chapter delves into the challenges inherent in navigating remote work for higher education professionals, addressing crucial aspects such as policy development, organizational planning, and employee expectations. Through the lens of Social Exchange Theory, it examines aspects of commitment and work engagement and the evolving role of leadership in fostering trust, collaboration, and flexibility within remote work settings.
