Abstract

Osteoarthritis is a disease affecting single or multiple joints, which may be caused by a variety of factors. There is a higher incidence of the condition in women than men, and the overall incidence increases with advancing age. The primary objectives of treatment include providing pain relief, maintaining joint mobility and preventing joint deformity. In addition to physical, occupational and pharmacological therapy, patient education and social support are vital elements in the management of patients with osteoarthritis.
