Abstract
We have entered a new era with the advent of the anthropocene, in which humanity has come to exercise a determining influence on biological, geological and anmospheric processes. The term 'anthropocene' may have only recently gained currency, but literature, and poetry in particular, play an important role in the necessary reconsideration of the position of human beings in nature from the perspective of the anthropocene. Over the last three decades, Richard Pietraß has published five volumes of poems which challenge our self-understanding as homo technicus, and draw attention to the interweaving of human life in the network of ecological relationships.
