Abstract
This opinion piece presents some reflections on the presence and activities of Italian Mafias in Europe and the UK. In particular, it calls for an improved understanding of how these groups function outside their territory of origin and better cooperation among European law enforcement agencies if their economic power is to be challenged. Democracy is slowly being undermined by these groups and it is no longer only Italian democracy.
