Abstract
Accurate, complete discharge information is
essential to continuity of care when patients are
discharged from hospital. Electronic methods have
been suggested to improve the quality and
timeliness of discharge information sent to GPs
(primary care doctors). In February 2007, an
electronic discharge summary system, InfoFlex,
was introduced in Gloucestershire, UK. This
system enables the hospital to send additional
medicines-related information (medication
changes, new medication indications and whether
medicines should continue) to GPs.
