Abstract
This opening chapter serves to locate the text within the broader field of sport and physical activity interventions and provides an outline of the various themes, topics, and issues under consideration. The focus of the chapter is to present the underlying rationale and argument for the text and highlight the fundamental need for a collaborative/co-creative approach (i.e., one involving academics, practitioners, and policymakers) in order to facilitate better understandings of the utilisation of sport and physical activity within criminal justice settings. The chapter concludes with an outline of each of the subsequent chapters and explain how they contribute both to the book itself and to the broader field of enquiry.
