Abstract

Inset dielectric guide (IDG) is an alternative to dielectric guides such as Image or Insular Guide for millimeter wave and antenna applications. Antennas, bends, and couplers in IDG have already been examined showing good characteristics, but the problem of mounting diodes in IDG has not previously been addressed. A simple detector diode mount is examined and its performance in IDG is compared to that achieved when the same diode is mounted in a rectangular metal waveguide. Performance in IDG is good, if a little worse than in waveguide due to some radiation loss from the diode mount.
