Abstract

The authors report an improvement of the bandwidth-distance product of multimode fibre by up to 400%, achieved with a novel offset launch technique. This technique excites > 60% of the fibre modes and is stable against environmental variations. Transmission of 2.5Gbit/s over 3km of 50μm multimode fibre is demonstrated.
