Abstract

The World Health Organization estimates that 15% of the world's population have a disability and 2-4% have significant difficulties in functioning. Yet few current IoT technologies consider inclusion in their design process. This talk presents a philosophy of inclusive technology and explains how IoT coupled with mobile technologies and AI can make work, the home, education and cultural life more accessible. Using current work involving the co-design of hardware and apps developed for cultural inclusion, Hayhoe looks at how accessibility cannot just be integrated into mobile technologies but be part of their function.
