Abstract

A new procedure for hydrostatic compression testing of anisotropic low density polymeric foams is presented. The testing apparatus developed is able to measure large deformations of foam specimen simultaneously in three directions under multiple loadings and unloadings. Hydrostatic compression tests were successfully carried out on expanded polystyrene and polyethylene foams. It is found that both foams show anisotropic behavior. The presented data will be useful for the development of new constitutive models to predict the multiple loading and unloading behavior of anisotroptic polymeric foams.
